GrabCar In-car Valentines’ Design Contest for drivers
To bring more kilig to passengers, Grab drivers-partners are encouraged to be creative and amp up their game by decorating interiors of their vehicles through a special Ka-Grab In-Car Valentine’s Design Contest.
The mechanics of the contest is simple --- dress up the interiors of their cars in relation to the love month. They are, however, required to avoid covering the windshield and mirrors for safety. From Feb 1 - 15, they have to should take a photo of their in-car design, post it as a comment on the official contest post published on Brian Cu’s official FB page, and then like and share their post.
Grab is giving away a total of P60,000 worth of Sodexo gift certificates to the top five drivers who creatively designed their GrabCars. The top prize for the contest wins P35,000 worth of Sodexo gift certificates. Cu and his team will personally check the design of the vehicles and the winners will be invited to Grab’s headquarters in Makati City for the awarding ceremony.
Everyday Kilig Experience
Aside from creative car designs, Grab is also showcasing an ultimate GrabBae experience, with a total of 70 GrabBaes in Metro Manila and Metro Cebu (50 in Manila, 20 in Cebu). JAC Motors Philippines is bullish that the next few years will be favorable to Chinese car brands in general.
Speaking at the well attended Banker’s Night recently at its Alabang dealership, JAC PH President Val de Leon President said that his brand's growth is positive in every aspect.
“So far we have received a majority of good comments about JAC vehicles we have sold. The situation only encourages us to pursue the growth of the brand here,” de Leon said.
He also said that concerns for parts supply has been served as shipments already in the Philippines met port congestion issues.
JAC PH started operations only last March 2017 and has made significant foothold in the country with four dealerships in Sta. Rosa, Laguna; Pasong Tamo, Makati; Cebu City and Alabang which also serves as it’s headquarters.
Major banks BDO, BPI, ChinaBank, East- West Bank, Maybank, Metrobank, PNB, and others were well represented at the event. Last year JAC PH exposed representatives of the banks to various models at the sprawling JAC facility in China.
Currently, there are 4 JAC models in the most important vehicle segments. These are the S1 competing in the compact B segment, the S2 in the compact A segment, the S3 crossover, the S7 full sized, 7-seater SUV. In its light commercial vehicle (LCV) line up it has the M3 compact van, the M4 full size van, the Sunray commercial transporter series in three wheelbase lengths.
“This full line up enables us to meet the needs of the consumer market. So far we have been looking which segment we can serve best with our quality products,” Carlo Montemayor, General Sales Manager of JAC PH says. Montemayor echoed the message of De Leon saying that due to favorable market conditions including updated trade practices loosening tariffs on vehicles imported from China, improvement of product quality perception and bank's acceptance of lower financing rates at between 20 to 30 percent downpayment.
“It is encouraging to know that banks have acknowledged what our customers already know, that the quality of our vehicles is at par with Japanese and Korean brands,” De Leon explained.
JAC is one of China’s most prolific brands, and has produced an estimated 500,000 cars from 2010 until today.
“This high production volume increases the confidence of our buyers even more,” De Leon adds, as a video of the JAC operations revealed the extensive production capacity of the brand in China.
JAC builds and sells electric or hybrid-electric vehicles in China and are sold domestically and as well as in other markets. JAC PH is studying the feasibility of electric cars, trucks and buses but had a clear plan for the introduction.
“We continue to study EVs because it is the future, and we’d like to develop much of a lead in the market as possible because of principals have the technology already available,” De Leon concludes.
The green light has been given for unlimited, trouble-free electric mobility. The Audi e-tronCharging Service is going on-grid in ten markets. The service will be rolled out in a further six markets in the first quarter and expanded in Eastern Europe over the course of the year.
When driving abroad, Audi customers can charge their cars according to the local purchasing conditions without any extra costs. To cover individual charging needs, customers can choose from two different tariffs. Providing a premium charging offer, Audi makes 80% of all public charging stations in Europe accessible on the basis of just one contract.
The e-tron (combined electric power consumption in kWh/100 km (62.1 mi)*: 26.2 - 22.6 (WLTP); 24.6 - 23.7 (NEFZ); CO2 emissions combined in g/km (g/mi): 0) marks the dawn of a new era for Audi. The brand with the four rings is being transformed from a classic automotive manufacturer into a premium mobility systems supplier.
The Audi e-tron Charging Service is part of a broad-based offering for charging and provides access to the public charging infrastructure in 16 European countries. The service will be rolled out in eight additional markets in Eastern Europe over the course of the year. Audi’s charging card brings together more than 72,000 charging points operated by 220 providers. On longer journeys, Audi customers can charge their cars at the high-power IONITY network charging terminals and benefit from special conditions. Additional HPC charging points operated by other providers round off the e-tron Charging Service for long-distance journeys.
Freedom to choose: Two tariffs
To cover individual charging needs, the e-tron Charging Service offers two different tariffs. The “City” tariff is aimed primarily at urban commuters. It is available for a basic fee of €4.95 per month. For each charging process, customers then pay €7.95 for AC charging (up to 22 kW) and €9.95 for DC charging (up to 50 kW), regardless of the charging duration and how much energy is drawn.
For drivers who regularly travel long-distance, Audi recommends the “Transit” tariff. This costs €17.95 per month, although a one-year waiver of the basic fee is granted for first-time Audi e-tronbuyers. With the “Transit” tariff, customers benefit from better access conditions with HPC contract partners such as IONITY, higher charging capacities and shorter charging durations. The Audi e-tron is the first series-production model capable of charging with up to 150 kW at their HPC (high-power charging) stations. This means that the electric SUV is all set for the next long-distance stretch of a journey in approximately half an hour. And what’s more, the majority of electricity in IONITY’s network is generated from green sources.
Freedom to travel: Standardized prices abroad too
Standardized, country-specific prices mean that you can travel freely and easily without having to constantly compare prices. Even when you’re driving abroad, all you need is one contract and you can charge your car in currently 16 European countries. Audi customers will always pay the local standard price (based on charging speed) in whatever country they are in — and without any extra roaming costs. Thus, a customer traveling in a foreign country can charge their car at exactly the same price as a local user of the e-tron Charging Service.
myAudi app: Easy to use
The myAudi app or Audi navigation system can help you to locate the nearest charging station. In addition to planning your route and activating the charging points that it finds, the myAudi app can also tell you whether or not the charging terminal is currently available for use. You can start the charging process using your Audi charging card or the myAudi app. Identification and billing are performed automatically in the background. The app also displays the current charge status of your car.
Contract: Easy and transparent
To use the e-tron Charging Service, customers need to register once on the myAudi portal and conclude an individual charging contract. If necessary, your local Audi partner can help you to activate your contract. All charging processes are automatically billed together at the end of the month. You can use the myAudi portal or myAudi app to view your charging history and bills as well as manage your contract arrangements.
Partners: Groundbreaking collaboration
Audi developed the e-tron Charging Service together with Volkswagen Financial Services AG. The collaboration with Digital Charging Solutions GmbH has resulted in one of the biggest charging networks in Europe. “We are delighted to offer our e-tron customers a premium charging service with full network coverage and, together with our partners, to expand the electric mobility ecosystem,” says Fermin Soneira, Audi’s head of Product Marketing.
Volkswagen Financial Services AG is responsible for further expanding the charging service.
“We are a strong partner for the Volkswagen Group’s brands. The e-tron Charging Service is an outstanding example of how we are shaping the transformation toward global mobility services,” says Gerald Künne, who heads the Mobility Unit of Volkswagen Financial Services.

HYUNDAI Motor Company announced the world’s first smart fingerprint technology that allows drivers to not only unlock doors but also start the vehicle. Hyundai plans to implement the technology initially in Santa Fe SUV model that is to be released in select markets on the first quarter of 2019.
To unlock the vehicle, the driver need to place a finger on the sensor located on the door handle. The encrypted fingerprint information will be identified and delivered to the fingerprint controller inside the vehicle. The driver can also easily start the vehicle by touching the ignition that is also equipped with a fingerprint scanning sensor.
The technology also provides a customized driving environment. Matching information of driver preference with fingerprint data, the vehicle automatically adjusts seating positions, connected car features, and side-view mirror angles according to the driver.
“In the future, Hyundai Motor plans to further expand the application of the technology to allow the adjustment of temperature, steering wheel position, and many other features which will be tailored to driver’s preferences” said Albert Biermann, President and Head of Research & Development Division of the Hyundai Motor Company. “This will ultimately offer quality driving experience to each and every Hyundai customer.”
Hyundai also addressed the security issues on the smart fingerprint technology. With capacitance recognition, which detects differentials in the electricity level in various parts of the fingertip, the fingerprint technology efficiently prevents forgeries and faked fingerprints. The technology’s chance of misrecognizing other person’s finger print as the driver’s is only 1 in 50,000 making it five times more effective than conventional vehicle keys, including smart keys. Moreover, through real-time learning of fingerprints supported by ‘dynamic update’ system, the fingerprint system can continually improve its success rate.
Hyundai will apply the fingerprint technology in select markets and gradually expand to the other markets. Hyundai Motor also plans to continue to implement other customizable technologies to vehicle lineup, to strengthen technological leadership in the future mobility market.

YOKOHAMA, Japan (Jan. 9, 2019) – Nissan today unveiled the Nissan LEAF e+, further broadening the appeal of the world’s best-selling electric car by offering a new powertrain with additional power and range.
The “e+” refers to the increased energy density of the model’s battery pack and the higher output of its powertrain. The new powertrain adds to the car’s range by approximately 40%, ensuring that there’s a Nissan LEAF to meet the driving needs of a wider range of customers.
“The LEAF e+ is ‘more’ LEAF, offering customers more choice in terms of power and range,” said Daniele Schillaci, executive vice president ofNissan. “By offering customers a choice of powertrains to suit their needs, the award-winning Nissan LEAF is now more convenient and appealing than ever.”
More than 380,000 Nissan LEAF vehicles have been sold globally since the 100% electric model first went on sale in 2010. Equipped with advanced technologies including the ProPILOT semi-autonomous driving system and e-Pedal mode for one-pedal driving, the Nissan LEAFembodies Nissan Intelligent Mobility, the company’s vision for changing how cars are powered, driven and integrated into society.
Having pioneered mass-market electric cars with the Nissan LEAF, Nissan is continuing to promote alternative vehicle transportation. The NissanLEAF plays a vital role in Nissan’s efforts to integrate electric vehicles and energy systems into customers’ lives – creating an “EV ecosystem.”
Among these efforts is Nissan Energy, the company’s initiative for its electric vehicles to easily connect with energy systems to charge their batteries, power homes and businesses, or feed energy back to power grids, as well as new efforts to reuse batteries.
The Nissan LEAF e+ is scheduled to join the Nissan LEAF at Nissan dealerships in Japan in late January 2019. U.S. sales are expected to begin in the spring of 2019, and European sales will commence in mid-2019.
Nissan Intelligent Mobility
The Nissan LEAF e+ represents a step forward in each of the three key areas of Nissan Intelligent Mobility: Intelligent Power, Intelligent Driving and Intelligent Integration.
Nissan Intelligent Power: increased range and performance
The Nissan LEAF e+ features a new version of the Nissan LEAF’s revolutionary electric powertrain, delivering excellent energy efficiency and robust torque and power output. While the Nissan LEAF meets the needs of many customers with its driving range of up to 322 km (estimated WLTC Japan cycle)*4, near-silent operation and smooth and responsive acceleration, the Nissan LEAF e+ offers more than 40% additional range of up to 458 km (WLTC Japan cycle), allowing customers the ability to do more between charges.
The high-capacity battery and more powerful motor in the LEAF e+ combine to produce 160 kilowatts of power and 340 Nm of torque, enabling faster acceleration when driving at high speeds. Accelerating from 80 kph to 120 kph is nearly 13% quicker. This allows the LEAFe+ to confidently pass slower-moving vehicles, exit corners faster and more seamlessly and merge easily with fast-moving traffic. The top speed has increased by approximately 10% for comfortable cruising.
Thanks to an available new 70 kW (100 kW peak) Quick Charging system, the 2019 Nissan LEAF e+ can charge more efficiently than ever.*5Based on early testing, Nissan LEAF e+ owners can expect similar charging times when hooked up to a 100 kW charger as current NissanLEAF owners do with a 50 kW charger, despite a 55% larger battery storage capacity.
Even with a 25% increase in energy density and the increase in energy storage capacity, the Nissan LEAF e+ battery pack is almost the same size and configuration as the pack in the Nissan LEAF. Other than a 5-millimeter increase in overall height (16-inch wheels), the car’s exterior and interior dimensions are unchanged.
Because ownership satisfaction and peace of mind are pivotal for all Nissan LEAF owners, the battery limited warranty of 8 years/160,000 km (whichever occurs first) is standard for all versions.
“The Nissan LEAF caters to 99% of the expected electric vehicle buyers in the marketplace,” Schillaci said.
“Between the two powertrains and available technologies and features, Nissan LEAF customers can choose their best option to accommodate their lifestyle.”
Nissan Intelligent Driving: innovative ProPILOT features and smooth e-Pedal operation
Playing a leading role in Nissan Intelligent Driving is ProPILOT, an in-lane semi-autonomous driving technology that can automatically adjust the distance to the vehicle ahead, using a speed preset by the driver (between about 30 kph and 100 kph). ProPILOT can also help the driver steer and keep the vehicle centered in its lane. If the car in front stops, ProPILOT can automatically apply the brakes to bring the vehicle to a full halt if necessary. After coming to a full stop, the vehicle can remain in place even if the driver's foot is off the brake. If traffic restarts, the car will resume driving when the driver touches the steering wheel-mounted ProPILOT switch again or lightly presses the accelerator to activate the system. All these functions can reduce stress when driving on the highway in both heavy and fast-moving traffic. ProPILOT Park (available on Japan and EU models only) is a system that can provide vehicle acceleration, braking, handling, shift changing and parking brake operation to guide the car into a parking spot.
Further enhancing the Nissan LEAF’s driving experience is e-Pedal, which allows the driver to start, accelerate, decelerate and stop using only the accelerator pedal.*6 To match the Nissan LEAF e+’s additional power and increased mass, Nissan has reprogrammed the e-Pedal software for smoother operation and enhanced pedal feedback, especially for operation in reverse, and for smoother and more rapid deceleration, making it easier to stop the car using e-Pedal, even when backing up.
In addition to ProPILOT and e-Pedal, every Nissan LEAF is available with advanced safety technologies including Intelligent Lane Intervention, Lane Departure Warning, Intelligent Emergency Braking, Blind Spot Warning, Rear Cross Traffic Alert and Intelligent Around View Monitor with moving object detection.
Nissan Intelligent Integration: updated interface, larger display and convenient updates
The new Nissan LEAF links drivers, vehicles and communities through its convenient graphic-based Human Machine Interface. It allows the owner to use the NissanConnect smartphone app to perform tasks such as monitoring the vehicle’s state of charge, scheduling charging to benefit from optimal energy tariffs, finding the nearest charging station, and heating or cooling the car before getting in.
New for the Nissan LEAF e+ (on North American and EU models) is a larger full-color 8-inch display, with an updated navigation system that can be linked to a compatible smartphone. This thin film transistor display features smartphone-like operation
including swiping, scrolling and tapping. Applications, maps and firmware are updated over the air with the simple touch of a button, instead of having to manually update by USB or at a Nissan dealership.
Other new features include Door-to-Door Navigation, which syncs the vehicle’s navigation system with a compatible smartphone for seamless driving and walking directions. The Connections feature allows any of the car’s passengers to quickly and easily connect to a device within the vehicle.*8
Integration goes beyond what’s in the vehicle and now includes Nissan Energy, making Nissan LEAF vehicles part of a larger electric-vehicle ecosystem.
Sleek, modern design
One of the most eye-catching exterior elements of the new Nissan LEAF is the car’s sleek, streamlined silhouette, which maximizes aerodynamic efficiency. The bold fascia features Nissan’s signature V-Motion grille with blue 3D mesh. The streamlined profile gives it a sporty look, while the rear features a distinctive tail light design.
The Nissan LEAF e+ carries over most of the Nissan LEAF’s design. Subtle clues to its e+ designation include a revised front fascia with blue highlights and an “e+” logo plate on the underside of the charge port lid.
Like the Nissan LEAF, the Nissan LEAF e+ boasts a spacious, highly functional interior with a quality, high-tech feel. Pricing of the Nissan LEAF e+ in Japan starts at ¥4,162,320. Other regional pricing will be announced closer to on-sale dates.
Unlike its counterparts who are heavy into alternative fuel or hybrids, Nissan insists that the fully electric, extended range EV is the future of the automobile. It unveiled the Nissan LEAF e+, further broadening the appeal of the world’s best-selling electric car with powertrain options that offer expanded range and power.
